I came across this interesting New York Times article today.
"Picture Book No Longer Staple for Children"
From the article, it didn't seem like the children had a choice in the matter. I couldn't help but think about how this possible shift could again be affected by the e-book revolution.

This is so sad, and the issue goes beyond reading. I don't yet have children of my own, but I do see that more and more parents are very concerned about pushing and challenging their children at every stage of life, instead of allowing the children to move ahead at their own pace. I know a few parents of preschool and kindergarten students who are already talking with their kids about things like college and leadership skills. I'm interested to hear the reaction of some of the parents in our class to this story.

Interesting article. I wonder if this is a real trend or just a swing of the pendulum. Of course, by the time the pendulum swings back, picture books may look a lot different than they do now!
